Mother's Day at the Seattle Cheese Festival

L

I am a big fan of cheese. Simple cheddar, funky goat, tres leches, or a daring blue… I’m all game. So, what could be a better Mother’s Day treat for me than a festival of cheese? How about a festival of cheese on one of the most beautiful days in Seattle… bright blue skies and warm but not hot temperatures. Perfect. Except for one thing. I’m sadly not the only one in Seattle who thinks that beautiful, sunny, Sunday afternoons should be spent indulging in variety after variety of free, delicious cheese down at the Pike Place Market. The crowds were huge, and so getting to the cheese required a certain level of patience that I clearly lack.

I only tasted five or 6 different cheese, and didn’t stick around long enough to find out what they were. But camera in hand, I did find little gaps in the masses to take a quick shot or two of the cheese, the chaos, and of course, being at the market, a nice bouquet or two.

  1. I thought last year’s cheese festival was crowded, but it was nothing compared to this year. I made good use of the festival, but I had palate fatigue very quickly this time…

  2. Some countries already had existing celebrations honoring motherhood, and their celebrations have adopted several external characteristics from the American holiday, like giving carnations and other presents to your own mother.
