Rookie on the Blog…

L

I know. This is a rookie thing to do. But, I just have to share, because there is only one first time that your photos get published in a magazine. And that time, for me, is now. Seattle Magazine’s Best Restaurant issue is out, and while no, that’s not one of mine on the cover, I do have photos all over inside! Well, all over at least 7 pages anyway.

My first shoot for Seattle Magazine was at Tom Douglas’s Serious Pie restaurant, and I so remember the drive home after shooting their wonderful pizzas for an hour or so. All I could thing was “this has got to be the best job in the whole world.” To celebrate, we went there for dinner last night… and yes, the pizza is worth the hour and a half wait (of course, waiting across the street at Lola with their tasty mojitos wasn’t exactly roughing it.)

Also, as an added bonus and a surprise to me, Cook & Eat (along with a bunch of other fantastic Seattle food blogs) got quite a nice mention!

  1. Congratulations and don’t apologize. There is nothing wrong with being proud of recognition, and anyone who doesn’t have those moments can’t really be getting much joy from their work! My blog is only 4 months old and when I saw my blog listed as one of Tanya Wenman Steele’s(Epicurious) “Food Blogs I like” I had to send all my friends the link. I, like most bloggers, blog for myself first but it is great to have someone appreciate what you do!

  2. Thanks Deborah – and congrats to you too! That’s very cool!

Yvonne – You cannot beleive how much!

Peabody – Thanks! I’m so excited!

  3. Before I noticed your photo credit, I had already chosen the green tea pastries as my favorite photo of the issue. (Later I went back to see which photos were yours.) I’m looking forward to seeing more of your work published.

  4. Congratulations Lara!
I’ve long thought your photos were publication-worthy. It does sound like you got one of the best jobs in the world!

  5. Congratulations! You deserve to celebrate and share with us. Your photographs only grow more glorious every month. Brava!

And by the way, I didn’t even know I was mentioned until I peered at the screen to read your post. Thanks.

  6. Congratulations! Just got my issue of Seattle magazine; had no idea about your blog until I read about it in the issue, and I didn’t know so many of those gorgeous photographs were yours! Cheers!

  7. Wow, congratulations, Lara! I love the green tea pastry shot. I agree, you really do have the best job in the world! 🙂

I discovered your other blog, stilllifewith.com, a few days ago, and I must say, I’ve been hooked ever since! I’ve been backreading like crazy in an attempt to cram my head with all the info on food photography in your blog. I’m happy to report that I’ve seen a marked improvement in my food shots, but they are still a very far cry from yours. Keep up the great work, and congratulations again! 🙂

P.S. — I’ve linked still life with, the flicker group, and this blog to my multiply page. I hope you don’t mind, I’m just a really big fan of your work. 🙂

  8. Congrats Lara. Very well deserved. I had the same experience with Marnie. Your blogs definitely made me a better photographer!

  9. Chiming in very late here (been swamped and just now catching up on blog reading) but I just had to say a huge CONGRATS–and many more, of course! Of that I have no doubt. It is well deserved!
