I made a thing called Wubbin

I like daily puzzles.

Not in a particularly serious way. I’m not trying to optimize my brain or build a streak or become the kind of person who has a spreadsheet for their Wordle stats. I just like having a little thing to do.

You open it up, there’s today’s puzzle, you do it, and then you get that tiny hit of oh, nice, I did that.

And there’s something else about it too, which is that you know a whole bunch of other people are doing the exact same thing.

That part has always felt kind of lovely to me.

So at some point I started thinking: what if you took that idea out of the screen? What if, instead of a daily word puzzle, there was just one little thing to actually do every day? Nothing ambitious. Not “run a 5K.” Not “transform your morning routine.” More like: go do this one tiny thing.

And that became Wubbin.

Every day, Wubbin gives everyone the same random task.

It might be something creative. Or useful. Or kind. Or involve moving around a little. Or it might be one of those tiny household things that you know perfectly well exists but have somehow managed not to do for the last three years.

Like dusting the top of your refrigerator.

Which, honestly, is one of my favorite examples because there is something extremely funny to me about the idea of thousands of people all dusting the tops of their refrigerators on the same day.

And then we can see that other people did it too, cheer each other on a little, maybe laugh about it, and go on with our lives.

That’s basically the whole idea.

I think we spend a lot of time online watching other people do things. And I wanted to make something that nudged us, very gently, toward actually doing something ourselves. There’s a little sense of accomplishment in that. And maybe a little sense of togetherness too.

Wubbin is still very much an experiment. I have a bunch of ideas for where it could go, some of which are considerably weirder than what’s there now.

But I wanted to start with the simplest possible version:

One thing. Today. We all do it.

You can try today’s one at wubbin.com.

And if today happens to involve cleaning something you’ve been successfully ignoring for six months, I apologize in advance.
