I’m back.
How are you guys doing? It’s been a minute. At some point between the last time I posted… oh, some, um 12? years ago??? … I found myself with 3 jobs, which I managed to get it down to 2, and then 1, and then as of last April, zero official jobs. I honestly don’t know what to do with myself. So, I’ve just started building things and figured I may as well re-kick off the old blog.
I expect it’s going to be a little different this time around. I’ll still post about food (I’m casually working on some recipes for a cookbook idea I’ve had in the back of my head for a while now), and I’ll definitely post about travel. But, I’ll also be posting some about a few of the other projects that I’m working on. Who knows if any of them will go anywhere. I’d love it if one or two of them did, because I think that they could really be helpful for people, and I’d love for them to be used. But building is the fun part for me, and I’m going to just enjoy that fun for a while.
The thing I’ve got that is closest to shipping is a social space for women over 40… any women can join, but the point is a space to talk about issues that women of a certain age start to face… career change or reinvention, dealing with aging parents and/or grandkids, what to do with greying hair and aging skin, and of course, the menopause. I see a lot of chatter in Threads for this, but I just don’t know how comfortable I am with these conversations being next to my conversations about what tech stack I’m using… and there are definitely things I’d like to talk about that I don’t want to be googleable. I expect I’m not alone.
Also, I’d like a space that is not so focused on going viral or engagement bait; one that isn’t full of bots and trolls and one that I understand why I’m seeing a post vs some secret algorithm.
So, I’m building tendril. If it sounds interesting to you, I’ve got a waitlist up so you can be one of the early entries and help me shape the community. I’ve also got a Threads account, so feel free to follow me there too… I’ll be posting updates as I have them. I hope to have tendril public in the next 2 months, and expect I’ll have it open to a select group for feedback in the next couple of weeks.
Also – I’d love a partner to join me with this effort… so if you are looking to get more involved in something in this space, give me a shout.
More on my other projects next time.
For now, I leave you with this shot of one of our foster kittens last month… he was the best kitten ever, and if we didn’t love to travel so much, he definitely would have been a foster fail.
